Sorry for the inexcusable delays in updating the website. Very honestly, I just wasn’t happy with the way it looked and navigated. I can’t say that I am totally pleased yet, but it is a quantum major better.

Showing its age

For years I’ve depended on Steve Gibson’s Spinrite for data recovery on dying hard drives. In the past year I’ve seen increasing instances of outright lockups and time estimates of hundreds and thousands of hours.

I don’t know enough about the internal workings of a hard drive to understand to understand what is happening, but something has changes. It’s time to look for something else.

Hard Drives Dropping

I sure am seeing a lot of hard drives dying recently. No real pattern though.

I will say that we are having better luck recovering data from the old PATA drives, as opposed to the SATA.

Fortunately, for our clients, we’re hitting about 75%, I would say, in recovering data. The bad part is – it’s expensive and there’s still a lot of work after we finish – unless we are lucky enough to grab an image, which is rare.
